SEPTEMBER

Lecture: Thursday, September 17, 2009 7:00 PM
Shelley Ackerman
America’s Eighth Saturn Return

As every astrologer knows, planet Saturn with its cycle of nearly 29-1/2 years is as relevant for a nation as it for a human being. When America was born on July 4, 1776, Saturn was in Libra in a tight square to our Cancer Sun. At our eighth Saturn Return in 2010, it will be in a T-square with Uranus and Pluto. Keywords for the eighth sign (Scorpio) and eighth house are death and rebirth and transformation. As we approach our eighth Saturn Return, these questions come to mind: Will this Saturn Return have Plutonic/Scorpionic overtones? Will it be the re-invention of America? Which karmic chickens are due to come home to roost this time around? What is the significance of Saturn in hard aspect to Uranus and Pluto in 2010? How will this transit from late 2009 to 2012 impact us individually and collectively?

Shelley Ackerman is a professional astrologer and columnist from New York City. She has appeared on Access Hollywood, MSNBC, Fox News, CNN, BBC, NBC, ABC, CBS and over a thousand radio shows on numerous stations. She has written for The NY Daily News, The NY Post, Beliefnet.com and currently writes a column for the West Chester Guardian. Her website is www.karmicrelief.com.

OCTOBER

Lecture: Thursday, October 15, 2009 7:00 PM
Greg Bogart, Ph.D.
Transits and Progressions: Tasks of Development

This presentation will explore the cycles of transiting and progressed planets from the perspective of developmental and archetypal psychology. We will see how each planetary cycle represents a specific facet of our human evolution and presents tasks that enable us to gradually unfold our potentials. Cycles of both inner and outer planets will be considered, including the cycles of planetary pairs such as Sun-Mercury, Venus-Mars, Jupiter-Saturn, Saturn-Uranus, Jupiter-Neptune, and Uranus-Pluto. We will also discuss how the unfolding of the progressed chart presents crucial tasks of development for each individual. Greg will discuss astrology as a form of active meditation where we contemplate our current transits and progressions with expectancy and conscious use of will to shape what unfolds. Using the birth charts of audience members, we will contemplate the spiritual lessons of transits and progressions.

Workshop: Saturday, October 17, 2009 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Greg Bogart, Ph.D.
Dreams and Astrology

Astrology and dreamwork are transformative practices that can be utilized in tandem for in-depth emotional and spiritual process work. Contemplating the messages of dreams and astrology together sharpens our awareness of current life tasks and generates new vitality within us. Dreamwork and astrology are also helpful ways of working through depression, anxiety, trauma, and relational conflicts and impasses. In this workshop we’ll explore how the imagery of dreams reflects the symbolism of your natal chart and planetary transits and how archetypal forces are at work in astrology, in dreams, and in waking life. Greg will introduce a technique called the Dream Mandala, a method of diagramming dream symbolism that makes us conscious of charged polarities within the personality. Using the Dream Mandala, working with dreams becomes a path to emotional healing, spiritual unification, and renewed creative energy. Combining this with astrological symbolism is a potent combination. Please bring dreams and copies of your birth chart to share, as well as pens, pencils, and paper. This workshop is an opportunity to do intensive inner work in a fun, dynamic, emotionally intimate group setting.

FEBRUARY

Lecture Thursday 02/18/10
Solar Arcs
Gary Christen

This is a talk about a specific prediction method, the use of Solar Arcs in the Horoscope. There are many approaches to prediction, each more complicated than the next. The use of Arcs combines simplicity, elegance, ease of use and deliver terrific results. Especially when combined with transits, they set up conditions for life’s destiny to unfold. You will be shown how Directions differ from Progressions and how to use Sensitive Arcs. To make this useful and simple, we will incorporate a Lifetime Solar Arc table calculated for the native. Also, we will incorporate a list of the natal arcs between planets called the Difference Sort to measure our Solar Arcs against. These are simple, personal tables, unique to each individual that allow us to see at a glance, a lifetime of possible events and the sequence of when the events unfold. This is a talk for all levels of astrological knowledge and ability. While beginners will follow with ease, even seasoned professional practitioners will gain some great new tricks that are easy to use.

GARY CHRISTEN is a well-known practitioner of Uranian Astrology, which he has evolved into modern Symmetrical Astrology. An astrologer since his teens, he is the first person in modern times awarded an accredited B.A. degree in astrology (Livingston College, Rutgers University, 1974). An international lecturer, Gary has been teaching since the early seventies. A professional astrologer since 1969, Gary co-founded Astrolabe, Inc., assisting the development of many Astrolabe products. He is currently perfecting Nova ChartWheels, which he considers representative of the future of astrology. www.alabe.com

MARCH

Lecture: March 18, 2010 7:00 PM
Don Cerow
Down the Rabbit Hole

Using the chart of the USA, Don focuses on Pluto’s recent entry into Capricorn, examining history to see what it means to have Pluto in Capricorn in both our national map and heaven above. From the Revolution to the modern financial meltdown, from Kennedy’s the assassination to the shots fired at Jackson and Lincoln, Pluto takes aim. It’s all here.

Stars, Myths and Dragons "Planetarium Show"
Fri., March 19, 2010 7:00 - 9:00 PM
Celebrating International Astrology Day
Don Cerow

The image of the dragon is the vestige of a once worldwide code of information written in the stars. Whether as Ti'amat of the Babylonians, Ladon of the Greeks, the Imperial Dragon of China, Jörmungandr of Norse fame, Thunder Bird of the Lakota or even 'feathered serpent' of the Mayans, we find this singular image omnipresent around the globe. If the Dragon is a fictional creation, what is the source of its universal appeal? This show retells a number of creation myths and offers a delightfully simple answer to this intriguing question. Workshop: Sat., March 20, 2010 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Don Cerow
The Book of Revelations

The final book of the Bible was left as a time capsule with an encrypted message for our time. It was meant to be opened and read in these, the final days of the Age of Pisces. The Book of Revelation IS the message from heaven to Earth about the Age of Pisces and the Age of Aquarius to follow. Set your clocks for 2012.. For more on Revelation: http://www.athenasweb.com/bible.html (Scroll down to The Book of Revelation.)

*An astrologer since 1972, Don's principle interest has been in how astrology has evolved from the mythology and astronomy of ancient peoples. In 2003 he reconstructed an early model of Stonehenge, a story recorded in the New York Times. In 2005 he wrote and produced a multi-media show for Fiske Planetarium at the University of Colorado, Boulder- entitled Star, Myths and Dragons, a presentation pushing back the limits of what our forbearers knew about the heavens. He's produced shows on astrology for both radio and television and taught at colleges and universities across the country. Don's been writing 'Athena's Web', a national weekly column since 1983. 'Star*Myths' is an evening seasonal presentation pointing out the stars and constellations for the public, school groups and museums. Don's a certified NCGR Level IV astrologer known for the warmth, insight and depth he brings to his counseling practice. Currently he is finishing work on a book translating the themes of the Bible's Revelation. www.athenasweb.com

APRIL

Lecture: Thursday, April 15, 2010 7:00 PM
Priscilla Costello
The ‘60s Are Coming

Liberation movements, protests, dramatic social and cultural changes--if you remember the 1960's, it was a dynamic decade whose influence is still felt and whose energy is reappearing with the Saturn-Uranus opposition and the forming Uranus-Pluto square. What were the seminal events and major themes of that decade? With some reference to Richard Tarnas' brilliant research in Cosmos and Psyche, what might we expect to reappear now and in the future? As well, we will look at where the previous Saturn/Uranus/Pluto energy fell in your chart and what you might anticipate in the coming years.

Workshop: Sat., April 17, 2010 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Priscilla Costello
Aspect Patterns: Geometry of the Soul

As planets glide around the Sun, they move periodically into certain pre-defined geometric relationships to one another. When linked together, the major aspects (conjunction, square, opposition, trine, and sextile) reveal your inner psyche, along with your life challenges and life purpose, as well as potential outer circumstances and events. Multiple aspects can create certain recognized configurations composed of these Ptolemaic aspects. We will cover the major patterns of stellium, grand trine, kite, T-square, and grand square, as well as hint at other possible connections between planetary energies.

*Admired for the clarity, depth, and energy of her presentations, Priscilla Costello is a counseling astrologer, teacher, and writer with a professional astrological practice spanning over 30 years. She has spoken widely throughout the U.S. and Canada, at numerous conferences sponsored by NCGR, the AFA, SOTA, and most recently at UAC in Denver, Colorado. Currently serving on the Advisory Board of NCGR, she was formerly its Director of Chapter Affairs and Development. She has also been instrumental in the organization of Canadian astrology, both locally and nationally. Founder and Director of The New Alexandria, a center for religious, spiritual, and esoteric studies, she is the author of The Weiser Concise Guide to Practical Astrology (2008), a unique introduction to the basics of astrology that links it to psychology, religion, and esoteric wisdom. In a recent review in The Mountain Astrologer (Dec/Jan 2009), Mary Plumb describes it as "a fine introduction to serious astrology and a lovely book for astrologers at all levels of experience to enjoy."

Predictive Techniques

Accurate predictive work requires an integration of various techniques. This talk defines transits, secondary progressions, solar arcs, and midpoints. It shows how to use each of these methods for best results in predictive work, whether that predictive work is psychological or event oriented. It demonstrates how to combine the use of these methods in forecasting life's cycles and events.

Joyce Levine is an astrological consultant, astrology lecturer and author. Her career spans more than 25 years, including more than 12 years as a former astrology talk show host and guest speaker. She is the Clerk of the NCGR National Council for Geocosmic Research and is currently President of the Boston Chapter.
