The Transiting Node Triggers the Eclipse Point

{this article has been updated by Dietrich especially for the Lunar Quarterly and the update does not appear on her website}

A list of news events often occur right around an eclipse date. Eclipse worthy events that occur at times other than eclipse dates, scream for an "astrological" connection. For example, events come to mind such as the current Iraq war that began March 20, 2003; the largest electrical blackout in North American history occurred on August 14, 2003; the devastation of the World Trade Center September 11, 2001; the War on Terrorism began with the first strike on October 7, 2001 in Afghanistan; the rescue of the Cuban youngster, Elian Gonzalez on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1999. None of these events occurred on eclipse dates but all have one thing in common; the stories began within the time period when the nodes of the Moon crossed an eclipse point. The transiting nodes conjuncts the eclipse point either before or after the eclipse actually occurs giving a very hot time period for news making events. (Both the true node and the mean node are considered.)

For instance, the Iraq war began with the true node at the 1° 14' Sagittarius eclipse degree, a full eight months before the 1° 14' Sagittarius November 23, 2003 eclipse date.

The transiting nodes of two Lunar Eclipses where present in August 2003. The first was the Lunar eclipse at 27° 33' Taurus of November 19, 2002, and the second was the Lunar eclipse at 24° 53' Scorpio, which occurred on May 16, 2003. There were two major news events in August 2003; the huge North American blackout and the murder of pedophile priest John Geoghan in a Leominster, Mass. prison.

The World Trade Center's Twin Towers were destroyed when the transiting node of the Moon was conjunct the 4° 14' Capricorn Solar Eclipse point of December 25, 2000.

The War on Terror began in Afghanistan on October 7, 2001 when the transiting node reached the June 21, 2001 solar eclipse point of 0° 10' Cancer.

The rescue of a small boy afloat a raft from Cuba, Elían González, occurred seven months before the 8° Leo solar eclipse of July 31, 2000, with the transiting node conjunct that degree.

The eclipse table below is divided in the middle with solar eclipses on the left and lunar eclipses on the right, each having three (3) columns: one with the eclipse date then the eclipse position and lastly the date the node transits the eclipse point.

Column 1 shows the eclipse date

Column 2 shows the eclipse position

Column 3 shows the date the node transits the eclipse point

Keep a note of what your experiences were around November 8, 2003. Things like phone calls, new people, social setting, unexpressed desires, the voice in the head that starts as a whisper and keeps getting louder, etc. These things may come right to the foreground when the True Node reaches 4°Pisces on November 6, 2004, the Mean Node reaches 4°45 Pisces on October 9, 2007. Consider both and the range of these dates as related to the Lunar Eclipse. The 1°Virgo 52 Lunar Eclipse coming up on February 20, 2008 also be triggered in November 2007. The True Node reaches this point November 28, 2007 and the Mean Node reaches the same point December 3, 2007. This is similar to the Lunar Eclipse triggered by the nodal transits back in August 2003 which created a high level of activity.

Note the difference between the dates of the True and Mean Node.. The Solar Eclipse at 4°14' Capricorn is an example of the potential for a wide difference between the dates of the True and Mean node, nearly a month in this case. See the Mean node at 4°14 Cp on August 4, 2001 and relate that to the known fact that on August 6, 2001, intelligence agencies were aware of a plan for a terror attack in the US however, the excuse for no action was that the two agencies, CIA and FBI, did not exchange information at that time. On September 11, 2001 the plan was left to actualize by the time the True node began to hover over the 3°10'Cancer Lunar Eclipse on Sept 9, 2001.

If you will notice currently (October 9, 2007) that the August 28, 2007 Lunar Eclipse at 4°45' Pisces is the object of our attention as the Mean node is conjunct that eclipse point through November 6, 2007 when the True Node reaches the same point. How are the events in your life displaying the symbolism of the August 28, 2007 Lunar Eclipse? A Lunar Eclipse will bring important matters to the surface that requires your attention. The topics are taken from the Virgo/Pisces polarity. Just a few ideas may include matters of job changes, service/sacrifice, health issues, actualizing your dreams/compromising your needs, suffering loss, gaining satisfaction through organizing. I am aware of several examples through my clients and classmates. Bring notes about your experiences to our workshop on October 20, 2007.

For those of us not in the news, think back to March 2003 to connect the stories in your life to the time period of the solar eclipse of November 2003. You may have had very dramatic changes that occurred in March 2003 and you may be getting a handle on what turned your life upside down from back then. They don't have to be major events. Here are few examples:

  • A friend discovered her son was ill back in March 2003, see true node at Nov Solar eclipse degree March 23, 2003. The entire year was consumed with his treatments, all of which failed until the week before the November 23, 2003 Solar eclipse.

  • Refer to the Lunar eclipse August 28, 2007. A patient had a mild heart attack August 5, 2007. After many tests the event was undiagnosed. However after further data collected from a sleep study on August 27, 2007 which revealed evidence of a problem, not apparent to the doctor earlier. On October 9, 2007 the doctor ordered more extensive investigation into the problem.

The Phases of the Moon Trigger Eclipse Points

When a solar eclipse or any New Moon occurs, the Lunar Gestation Cycle (a sub-cycle of Moon phases at the same degree and nine months apart), can re-ignite the stories triggered by the eclipse. It will take 2.25 years for the full Lunar Gestation Cycle to emerge. As this cycle begins with the eclipse/New Moon, it is followed nine months later by a related First Quarter; nine months later a Full Moon near the same degree; and finally the Last Quarter Moon finishes the cycle in the last nine month period. These related Moon phases are also called a Moon Family. See a note about how to locate Moon Families with Solar Fire.

Following is an example of how of a story line that stays connected in nine month intervals, beginning with the election of Al Gore and George Bush:

Lunar Gestation Cycle

Events

Solar Eclipse
December 25, 2000
04° 14´ Capricorn

President Bush was selected within days of the Christmas Eclipse of 2000.

First Quarter Moon
September 24, 2001
01° 24´ Capricorn

Nine months later, a First Quarter Moon at 1° 24' Capricorn occurred in September 2001, which was just after the devastating World Trade Center attack.

Lunar Eclipse
June 24, 2002
03° 12´ Capricorn

Nine months after the First Quarter Moon mentioned above the president was feverishly trying to sell his war campaign to the public. This took place at the time of the Full Moon at 3° 11' Capricorn, in June 2002.

Last Quarter Moon
March 25, 2003
04° 00´ Capricorn

The president was finally successful nine months later and then, a total of two and a quarter years from the time of the December 2000 solar eclipse, the war began. It was just days before the Last Quarter Moon at 4° 00' Capricorn on March 24, 2003.

At the point of the Last Quarter Moon in March 2003 the transiting south node triggered the eclipse point at 1° 14' Sagittarius, the exact point of the fall 2003 solar eclipse. (Midpoints are in the center of the chart's wheel.)

Could this be a clue to of the length of military involvement in Iraq? The November 2003 solar eclipse Lunar Gestation Cycle is as follows:

Lunar Gestation Cycle Moon Family

Solar Eclipse

First Quarter Moon

Full Moon

Last Quarter Moon

11/23/03 01° 14´ Sagittarius

08/23/04 00° 37´ Sagittarius

05/23/05 02° 47´ Sagittarius

02/21/06 02° 31´ Sagittarius

Planetary Aspects Can Trigger Eclipse Points

There are other astrological events that will trigger eclipses such as a planet crossing the eclipse point; a planet stationing at an eclipse point or a configuration that occurs at an eclipse point such as the Saturn Pluto opposition that occurred three times first at 12 Gemini Sagittarius next at 13 Gemini Sagittarius and last at 16 Gemini Sagittarius. There were three Sagittarius solar eclipses and two Gemini solar eclipses all during some of the most trying times in our history.

The first planet to cross the eclipse point gives a clue to the dominant theme of the eclipse. Also any other transiting planet passing over that point can trigger the energy of a past or future eclipse. I have noticed the opposition or a square from a pair of planets in aspect can trigger eclipse events. For example, this was the case with the dynamic duo of Mars and Jupiter. This conjunction set the stage for one of the juiciest presidential dramas in our recent history. It all began with the conjunction of Mars and Jupiter on January 20, 1998 at 26°40 Aquarius. The planets were parallel the next day, marking the intensity of the conjunction. Just three days before the conjunction President Bill Clinton was answering questions of the deposition of the Paula Jones lawsuit. Clinton's 26° Leo Sun was the object of the solar eclipse, six months later.

The conjunction marks the seed or initiation point, and Mars and Jupiter paired can represent legal battles. 26° Aquarius is conjunct the US Moon (in the US Sibly chart, see below) which represents the people. The 28° Leo solar eclipse on August 22, 1998, which opposed the Mars Jupiter conjunction placed Clinton before a Federal grand jury, exactly six months after the deposition on August 17, 1998. The following winter, the 27° Aquarius solar eclipse occurred on February 16, 1999 which reignited the Mars Jupiter conjunction, at which point Clinton was acquitted on February 12, 1999.

The Mars Jupiter planet pair remained on stage and performed for Clinton at every pivot. The Clinton case showed a marked change each time an aspect occurred between Mars and Jupiter. Even at the impeachment hearing, the midpoint of Mars/Jupiter crossed 0 CAP, the world axis, exactly December 15, 1998.

Look to see in your natal, progressed or solar return charts for a planet pair in exact aspect to the eclipse point. Cast a chart for the time when the node crosses the eclipse point and compare to your chart. Also cast charts for all four phases in the Lunar Gestation Cycle to see which are activating your planets. Have fun finding the significant clues of what an eclipse means to you.

How to Find the Lunar Gestation Cycle's Moon Families with Astrolabe's Solar Fire

Astrolabe's added Pessin's Lunar Gestation Cycle to Solar Fire in July 2000 as a feature under the Moon Phases option. First, cast a chart for the Solar Eclipse/New Moon and highlighted when you open the Lunar Phases option from the drop down menu or tool bar. The page opens with a list under Chart Type to Generate. Select Phase Family (New); a Which One option then pops up. Select the bullet for Current and then click on OK. The Lunar Phase Family appears in a list and you can highlight all four phases. Click on OK and these will load into your main chart menu.
